Corporate Responsibility at EOS
Global challenges, a rising awareness of sustainability issues, stakeholder expectations and our intrinsic motivation - they all are guiding our corporate responsibility engagement.
To maximize our contribution to a sustainable development we are cooperating with our business partners by creating shared value for our customers, EOS and the environment.
Shared Value
All our corporate responsibility initiatives have a strong link to our customers. In particular, our case studies are designed to become role models for our future customer relations. We want to achieve shared value with our customers through joint projects, which will be a core pillar of our business. This could lead to the development of responsible products through geometry optimization, to a reduced energy consumption by using these products as well as to flexible and individual production solutions. As such, EOS can also support its customers to achieve their sustainability goals by using the EOS technology.
How did we get there?
Initiatives
Two years ago, EOS set up an internal Corporate Responsibility Team with members from all business units to define fields of action and to identify adequate measures. In a first steps EOS identified saving potentials within their office buildings, for the use of raw material and for the EOS systems themselves. At the core of this evaluation process, EOS collected all relevant data to obtain the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) for 1 kg of sintered material.
Results and benefits
The evaluation of the PCF has shown that a holistic life-cycle approach (including raw material, manufacturing, operational phase and end of life) is essential. EOS identified CO2/energy saving potentials in the manufacturing phase. But what is even more important: for certain applications EOS sees an enormous CO2 saving potential during the use phase of the products (such as weight reduction in aerospace). With this in mind, EOS started a joint case study with one of its customers in April 2011 that aims at identifying new saving potentials from a life cycle perspective.
