Business for laser-sintered objects is growing accordingly in the design industry. Parts with complex geometries are built layer by layer in a single process. In the meantime, companies such as Materialise in Belgium have their own departments where product designers systematically investigate the possibilities of the new technology. They use laser-sintering technology to produce not only fixtures such as lamps and chairs but also fashion items such as jewellery, handbags and sunglasses with unusual shapes and structures.
