Welcome to the third edition of EOS
e-Manufacturing News where we present our software EOSTATE 1.2
along with the biocompatibility of our material PA 2200 and the
importance it has for medical applications. In addition, we
show how the laser-sintering method is used in lightweight
design.
Also in this issue, please join us for an exploration
of Shapeways - the online community and marketplace. Furthermore we
would like to introduce our colleague Anders Rydén who is heading our
new office in Sweden.
We hope to see you at any of our
upcoming shows and events.
Until next time, enjoy reading
and we look forward to hearing from
you.
Yours sincerely, the EOS e-Manufacturing newsletter
team

EOSTATE 1.2: Statistical
analysis and intelligent reporting for a more predictable
e-Manufacturing With its new and versatile reporting and
analysis options, the EOS software EOSTATE 1.2 offers increased
transparency and continuous quality assurance in serial production
processes. Therefore the software is an excellent addition to the Part
Property Profiles (PPPs), which we have already presented in this
newsletter and which is available for all plastic and metal systems. As
follows we present four modules for performance analysis here.

Polyamide is entering
into medical applications The fine powder PA 2200 provides a
very balanced property profile for a wide range of applications.
Due to its biocompatibility, it is also used in various medical
applications such as dental models, which allow proper finishing of
dental restorations (see photo). On the other hand, disposable
instruments for surgery are manufactured out of polyamide. An
application that Martin Bullemer, Key Account Manager Medical at EOS,
describes here
in more detail. The characteristics of PA 2200 are available in
the Materialdatacenter for
plastics.

Stiff, yet strong
New functional requirements, the pursuit of user comfort as well
as economical and environmental constraints increase the attractiveness
of lightweight design. This requires a rethink in product development,
manufacturing, processes and materials. UK-based company WITHIN
Technologies Ltd. has developed an algorithmic method of
deriving an object’s internal structure. It is partly based on
evolution, and partly on deterministic structural engineering principles.
Finally, the (lightweight-) part is produced by
laser-sintering.

Online community and
marketplace for personalized products Shapeways is an online-platform
where people can make, buy and sell their own creations.
Custom-made and one-of-a-kind products are created on demand in a variety
of materials using the latest additive manufacturing 3D printing
technologies. Among others, they use plastic laser-sintering systems
from EOS. For all readers of the EOS e-Manufacturing
News Shapeways propose a special discount of 10% till the end
of this year. To take advantage, use the following discount code in
step 4 during the ordering process: winf1.
