Welcome to the current issue of the EOS e-Manufacturing News which will feature a case study that describes how the German automation specialist Festo benefits from laser-sintering technology. In addition, we would like to introduce the new material PrimePart PLUS and give you a look back at the very successful previous fiscal year of EOS.
Our calendar of events shows you dates of upcoming shows and events were EOS will be exhibiting and where we look forward to your visit.

Solution
Bionic Handling Assistant. The flexible assistance system based on the model of an elephant's trunk is produced on a FORMIGA P 100 (courtesy of Festo).
Laser-sintering enables automation engineering supplier Festo to design its bionic assistance system. Biological processes, motion patterns of living organisms or physical construction principles: Nature has countless solutions only waiting to be analysed by bionic science and converted into technological innovation. However, it is difficult to employ conventional manufacturing techniques to make use of the solutions which Mother Nature has developed in millions of years of evolution. Therefore, automation specialist Festo uses the laser-sintering process for the small batch production of some of its industrial applications which are based on bionic adaptation. Materials
Dogfooding: Device for adjusting the laser mirror in Y and Z direction, which EOS uses in their FORMIGA P 100.
PrimePart PLUS (PA 2221): breakthrough polymer development, making plastic laser-sintering more economical and sustainable PrimePart PLUS is a translucent polyamide polymer universally applicable for fully functional plastic parts of highest quality and excellent mechanical properties. Thanks to the optimised refresh rate of about 3o percent virgin powder, in comparison to 50 percent for conventional polyamide polymers, material consumption is reduced most importantly. This results in considerable lower costs per part, in a reduction of waste by almost half and in a more efficient overall production process. PrimePart PLUS is setting new standards in the field of e-manufacturing.

EOS completed very successful fiscal year 2010/2011, prepared to tap full potential of upcoming market opportunities At the end of September 2011, the company completed a very successful fiscal year which showed much higher growth rates than expected after a short phase of economic downturn in 2010. EOS also recently surpassed 1,000 laser-sintering systems sold worldwide and completed the fiscal year with a revenue increase of 47 percent, with 94 million Euros. The number of staff is increasing too, with currently more than 380 employees globally. As a result, a broader management team has been established which can now better support the key divisions of the company.
