Krailling, December 7, 2016 - EOS, the global technology and quality leader for high-end Additive Manufacturing (AM) solutions and SKZ, Germany's largest center for plastics in Würzburg, are stepping up their cooperation in the area of training and further education for plastics-based Additive Manufacturing. Both companies are aiming to optimize and shorten the learning curve for their employees.
Although Additive Manufacturing has been around for more than 20 years, many industries are still adapting it at a comparatively slow pace. This is partly due to the fact that qualified workers in this technology are a scarce resource, not area-wide available. As such, for many customers the subject of training is a serious topic. This is especially relevant when they have plans to introduce the technology into serial production facing all the particular challenges it entails. Here, a skilled staff team is fundamental for extracting the maximum benefits from the technology necessary to achieve the company's own goals, to stay innovative in the face of tough competition and to create more value for the company and its customers.
Güngör Kara, Director Global Application & Consulting at EOS adds: “In the course of stepping up our joint cooperation with SKZ in training and transferring knowledge in polymer processing, EOS made a conscious decision to join forces with the market leader, who also happens to be one of the pioneers in plastics processing R&D. Together we can support the customers of EOS in achieving a faster transfer of knowledge and training for their employees." He continues: “EOS brings along its market-leading expertise in powder-based Additive Manufacturing, while SKZ contributes decades of experience in injection moulding. By integrating additive and conventional methods, we are establishing a basis from which we can prepare our customers for today's requirements and those of tomorrow in the environment of serial production, and help to create valuable competitive advantages for them."
CEO Professor Martin Bastian, director of the SKZ institute, agrees and adds: “We share an interest in making Additive Manufacturing an established technical production method for serial manufacturing. Our geographical proximity allows us to work together closely and intensively. He continues: “With EOS we have a reliable and experienced partner to develop training concepts in Additive Manufacturing that will allow the entire industry to train its employees in how to use this technology."
The companies share the belief that Additive Manufacturing holds incredible potential for the industry. EOS's modular platforms designed for industrial 3D printing shatter the boundaries of conventional manufacturing and fulfil the exacting requirements of our industrial partners in efficiency, scalability, user-friendliness and process monitoring. They are easy to integrate into an existing production environment and are simultaneously designed to fulfill future customer innovations. However, both partners are in agreement that the learning curve for Additive Manufacturing needs to be accelerated.
In addition to the close cooperation with SKZ, EOS is already investing huge resources into training the employees of tomorrow, and since around 200 universities so far have installed EOS systems, Additive Manufacturing is already being taught and applied on an exceptionally practical basis. At the same time, EOS's consulting division, “Additive Minds", supports its customers in every aspect of the technology, be it design rules guidelines, choice of the correct application or other themes.
