EOS and UseTree team receive Red Dot Design Award for simple, intuituive EOSPRINT 2 Software user interface
Krailling October 29, 2018 – EOS, the world's leading technology supplier in the field of industrial 3D printing of metals and polymers, jointly with UseTree, their partner for UX design development, have been awarded Best User Interface at the 2018 Red Dot Communication Design Awards, for the EOSPRINT 2 software user interface.
Markus Frohnmaier, Team Manager Data Preparation Software at EOS states: “It is fantastic to be recognised by such an influential body for our work alongside UseTree. We are very proud to win a Red Dot Design Award and it is certainly testament to the power of our software solutions.
“We redesigned EOSPRINT in 2016 with simplicity front of mind. The user interface of the previous version was complex and developer-driven, so our goal from the offset was to create an outstanding user experience that makes it easy to reap the rewards of additive manufacturing technology."
As part of their software suite, EOS with EOSPRINT 2 offers an intuitive, open and productive data preparation tool designed to assign and optimise build parameters for CAD data for industrial 3D printing on EOS systems. The software defines the exact path the laser takes during the part build process, as such influencing surface finish, tensile strength and build speed.
The official announcement of the award coincides with the release of the latest version of EOSPRINT, which performs with a 30 % faster calculation time and an open software development kit. Within the new developer environment, software suppliers for CAD or MES solutions can integrate EOSPRINT into the workflow of their software solutions. Right from the start, Siemens NX is the first software solution to feature EOSPRINT integration.
Ariane Jäger, Senior UX Consultant at UseTree commented on the importance of the software and partnership: “As EOS's UX partner, we had to bridge the gap between the possibilities and the accessibility of new and innovative technologies. For this re-design, our work was dedicated to guiding users confidently through the additive manufacturing process, keeping the complexity at bay."
The Red Dot Communication Design Award
The Red Dot Awards are among the most prestigious within the design space, celebrating exceptional design across product, communication and conceptual design. This year, there were more than 8,600 entries from 45 countries. The EOSPRINT 2 software user interface won over the jury of international design experts, with its intuitive and open approach to CAD/CAM.
Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Awards had the following to say about the competition and the award: “For more than 60 years now, we have been providing designers, agencies and companies with a platform for evaluating good design. Those who participate in the Red Dot Award must be aware that our jury members have set very high standards for entries.
“This becomes apparent in the intensive debates and discussions that take place for all of the experts to agree on a well-founded decision. All those who progress through the tough adjudication process to garner a Red Dot have every reason to be proud of themselves, as the jury grants our award only to creations of high design quality. This makes me all the more delighted to congratulate the laureates sincerely on their well-deserved success."
