    Cobalt Chrome for
    Additive Manufacturing

Cobalt chrome’s material characteristics make it ideal for a wide range of applications in aerospace, medical and specifically dental restorations.

The cobalt chrome family of powders encompasses the MP1, SP2 and RPD alloys. All these powders are designed and tested for use on EOS’ metal systems.

All EOS cobalt chrome powders are shipped with an inspection certificate (according to EN 10204, Type 3.1) showing the results of the extensive QA testing not only of the powder itself but also of test parts built on a dedicated system with a dedicated process.

EOS also offers a wide range of validated processes for each of the above materials. These offer the optimal combination of parameters (e.g. laser power, layer thickness, etc.) in order to ensure that the properties of the 3D printed part are consistently achieved.

EOS CobaltChrome MP1

Parts have good corrosion resistance and high mechanical properties even at elevated temperatures plus are  nickel-free and show a fine, uniform crystal grain structure. This combination is ideal for many applications in the aerospace and medical industries.

EOS CobaltChrome SP2

This powder is a class IIa medical device in accordance with annex IX rule 8 of the MDD 93/42/EEC. It is a cobalt-based metal-ceramic alloy intended for the production of Porcelain-Fused to Metal (PFM) dental restorations, specifically crowns and bridges.

“type 4” CoCr dental material as per ISO 22674

Ultimate Tensile Strength  1350 MPa
Yield Strength  850 MPa
Elongation @ Break 3 %

 

EOS CobaltChrome RPD

This powder is a class IIa medical device in accordance with annex IX rule 8 of the MDD 93/42/EEC. It is a cobalt-based dental alloy intended for production of removable partial dentures.

Typical Part Properties

Chemical composition in compliance with

“type 5” CoCr dental material as per ISO 22674 

Ultimate Tensile Strength  1100 MPa
Yield Strength  550 MPa
Elongation @ Break 7 %
