EOSPRINT 2 is winner of the iF DESIGN AWARD 2018
The iF DESIGN AWARD, organized by iF International Forum Design GmbH since 1953, is among the most prestigious and largest design competitions in the world. It is recognized as a symbol of design excellence and for this year's award welcomed over 6,400 submissions from 54 countries.
The EOSPRINT 2 software user interface won over the 63-member jury, made up of independent experts from all over the world, with its intuitive and open approach. The jurors were convinced that it truly supports engineers in their daily work and is a great example of how complex processes become more accessible through design, as such empowering the users.
As part of their software suite, EOS with EOSPRINT 2 is offering an intuitive, open and productive data preparation tool designed to assign and optimize build parameters for CAD data for industrial 3D printing on EOS systems. The software defines the exact path the laser takes during the part build process, as such influencing surface finish, tensile strength and build speed.

Reference Point Calibration
The reference point calibration in EOSPRINT 2 (for EOS M 290) ensures easy and fast handling, enabling the construction of hybrid components and their pinpoint positioning. Furthermore, a 3D-printed part can be precisely milled due to its exact positioning.
Test series tool
In material development or in creating customized parameters for specific applications, such as filigree structures, the set-up of multiple tension bars or density cubes is necessary. From now on, EOSPRINT 2 will take over with its new test series tool with a semi-automated support for creating material development exposure sets. Quickly and efficiently pre-defined exposure sets are assigned dramatically reducing the time to prepare for series of tests. In addition, this reduces the error rate when preparing such test series.
Development of new materials
EOSPRINT 2 introduces a workflow-based approach for the graphical user interface reflecting the AM CAM process. Tools and features behave context-based according to the selected workflow-step – enhancing the daily work of engineers.
New plane segmentation
The new plane segmentation allows the use of different layer thicknesses in one part, optimizing it more easily for production. The segmentation functionality enables the splitting of a part with a plane that can be shifted in z level in order to define segments with different exposure requirements regarding quality and productivity. New exposure patterns
In addition to the alreday extensive exposure pattern portfolio of EOS, three new patterns were developed. They enable the production of yet unbuildable parts and excellent quality especially for down facing surfaces for expert customers. Two new exposure patterns were designed to increase productivity and allow to save approx. 20% of build time compared to EOSPRINT 1. With this vast range of selectable exposure patterns users have the choice about the quality of their parts.
