EOS Aluminium Al2139 AM

 EOS’ highest strength aluminium alloy for 3D printing enables companies to significantly reduce part weight while a fast single-step heat treatment process allows for a more cost-effective production.

EOS, a leading supplier for responsible manufacturing solutions via industrial 3D printing technology, has announced the addition of a new material, EOS Aluminium Al2139 AM. The alloy, engineered specifically for additive manufacturing (AM), offers outstanding performance in elevated temperatures up to 200ºC and is EOS’ highest strength AM aluminium alloy, outperforming a host of similar alloys currently available in the market. The increased strength properties of EOS Aluminium Al2139 AM give customers an excellent opportunity to significantly reduce the weight of manufactured parts without compromising on strength.

In its heat-treated state Al2139 AM achieves a yield and tensile strength around 500 MPa (megapascal), the highest strength for AM aluminium alloy. The material also has high strength at elevated temperatures up to 200 °C and good corrosion resistance. Thanks to its fast and simple single-step heat treatment procedure, companies can save up to 88 percent in active heat treatment time – meaning parts can be manufactured faster. Components produced using EOS Aluminium Al2139 AM can also be electropolished and anodized.

Outstanding performance for demanding applications

The combination of lightweight and strength properties of EOS Aluminium Al2139 AM, make it suitable for a range of high performance and demanding applications such as aviation, transportation, racing and the space industries, while also offering flexibility and improved material and production cost management to the contract manufacturing sector. The EOS Aluminium Al2139 AM material and process for the EOS M 290 has a planned release in Q1/2022, with other EOS DMLS® systems coming soon as well.
