Kratos Expands Hypersonics Manufacturing Capability with Acquisition of AMCM M 8K Large-Format Metal Additive Manufacturing System
Investment supports continued growth of Kratos' Indiana operations and advances domestic hypersonic manufacturing capabilities
____ novi, michigan, 27 October 2026
EOS is proud to announce that Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc., (NASDAQ: KTOS), a technology company focused on defense, national security and global markets, has purchased an AMCM M 8K metal additive manufacturing (AM) system. The system will be installed at Kratos' Indiana Payload Integration Facility (IPIF) in Odon, Indiana, near the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division.
The acquisition represents yet another significant investment by Kratos in Indiana and reflects the organization's commitment to expanding advanced manufacturing capabilities to support the development of hypersonic technologies. As demand grows for affordable, high-cadence hypersonic systems, large-format AM has emerged as a critical capability for accelerating development timelines, enabling complex designs and supporting scalable production.
Kratos chose the AMCM M 8K to address growing requirements for exceptionally large metal AM applications by providing a unique combination of large-format production capability and the proven process expertise, quality standards, and industrial manufacturing pedigree of the EOS and AMCM organizations.
The AMCM M 8K was developed specifically for demanding space and defense applications and features a build volume of 800x800x1,200mm with eight (8) high-power 1.2kW flexible beam shaping lasers. The platform combines advanced thermal management, optimized process gas flow, sophisticated filtration systems, and in-process monitoring technologies to support the production of large, high-performance metal components with exceptional accuracy, consistency and quality.
The new system will be installed at the Kratos Indiana Payload Integration Facility, providing a flexible AM platform for producing large-format metal components requiring exceptional precision, repeatability, and performance. The installation deepens Kratos’ growing presence in Indiana and expands the facility’s capabilities in support of advanced payload integration, hypersonic programs, and other national security initiatives within the defense and aerospace ecosystem surrounding Crane and Westgate Crane Technology Park.
“The capability we get from bringing the AMCM M 8K to the Indiana Payload Integration Facility will give us the flexibility, precision, and responsiveness to rapidly field the most advanced hypersonic systems. As we change the paradigm on low-cost, high-cadence hypersonic testing for programs like MACH-TB, this type of capability is critical to achieve the goal.” - Mike Johns, senior vice president of Kratos SRE
"Kratos is making a significant investment in the future of aerospace and defense manufacturing, and we're proud they've chosen AMCM technology to help support that vision. The M 8K was built for exactly these kinds of applications, large, complex parts where scale, precision, and process reliability all matter."- Martin Bullemer, managing director of AMCM
As the United States continues to prioritize the advancement of hypersonic technologies, manufacturers increasingly require production solutions capable of delivering larger, more sophisticated components with shortened lead times and uncompromising quality standards. The AMCM M 8K is expected to play an important role in helping Kratos meet the evolving demands of future hypersonic development and production programs.
"The defense industry is increasingly looking for ways to manufacture larger, more complex components faster and more efficiently. Kratos' decision to invest in the AMCM M 8K demonstrates both the growing maturity of additive manufacturing and the importance of building advanced production capacity domestically." - Glynn Fletcher, president of EOS North America.
